Building a custom (square) subwoofer box for 10" will it affect the sound?
I have a 10" sub box (truck)
width is 20"
height is 15"
depth on bottom is 8"
depth on top is 4"
my car is a coupe with very little space. I can only put it behind my driver seat on the floor. And that measurement has to be....
Width 14"
height 11"
depth on top 4"
depth on bottom 7"
my question is will the smaller box affect the sound of the subwoofer?
Less bass or tight bass?
Yes size of the enclosure makes a pretty huge difference in the sound output of your sub-woofer. In my opinion using the right enclosure is just as important if not more important that using a quality sub when you want quality sound.
Depending on whether you used 1/2" MDF or 3/4" MDF for that first box, the internal volume of it is..
1/2" MDF: .77 cubic feet
3/4" MDF: .65 cubic feet
With your new box dimensions the box internal volume will be..
1/2" MDF: .339 cubic feet
3/4" MDF: .275 cubic feet
You are essentially cutting the internal volume in half.
There are very few subs out there that play well in such a tiny box. I don't think you will like the sound because most subs weren't designed to play in such a small box.
