What would you say would be the best iron set from a few years ago for me?
Im trying to buy used clubs from a few years ago
i need accuracy with my irons over distance although i wouldn't mind distance.
Im looking for forgiving irons these are my choices
TaylorMade R7 irons
TaylorMade Rac CGB irons
Callaway X-20 Irons or Callaway X-18's (BTW is there a difference?)
Cleveland CG Gold
Nike Slingshot 4D's
Ping G5's
Cobra S9's
OR some suggestions I can try and find thats a few years old

They're all good. I haven't used the X-18's, but I have some X-20's and 22's (not the whole sets, just a 6 and 7 iron from each set) and I can't tell a difference.
A general rule is, the thicker the sole, the more forgiving it is. The differences can be minimal, however.
Most irons, starting with these sets (among others from this timeline) started ratcheting up the "vanishing loft disease". Most of these have 45-46* PW's, when the "average" is 47-48*. There'll be a couple of yards gained, but many develop accuracy issues- especially those bought "off the rack". Assuming swing mechanics are sound, the higher the loft, the straighter the shot (backspin negates sidespin).
The good news is, aside from length and loft, irons haven't changed too much over the years. There's very little "wiggle room" for technology advancements... to really get an irons center of gravity low enough to truly do some observable good, it needs to have a shape like a hot dog (like the old Browning 440's). There's a reason that iron didn't sell very well, even with its advantages, which is why irons today still have that same "traditional" shape.
To make a long story even longer, it comes down to getting properly fit. If you like the look of a certain iron (check out Acer's XK or XF Pro series, or anything from Tom Wishon Golf Technologies, Golfsmith, Integra, or GolfWorks as well), it can be adjusted to fit your swing. Do this with a clubfitter: you may not be "standard" (a misnomer, to be sure, since no two club companies have the same "standards"), so getting fit for length, lie angle (CRITICAL for accuracy), shaft flex, swing weight, total weight and grip size is a must.
