What type of gas for an Acura Integra...?
Ok, I trust my husband's knowledge of car car, but I guess I just a want a second opinion on something my husband's always told me;
He drives a 1990 Acura Integra (it's in great condition, btw, he takes really good care of it). A couple of years ago he did an engine swap for an engine from a 90-something (99? not sure, don't quote me on it) Honda CRV. He insists his car has to have premium gas, and I just want to know what everyone else thinks. Does he really NEED to use premium gas? If it makes any difference, he drives his car pretty...aggressively? His car has a racing clutch, so he can't putter around like a weenie - he drives like he means it.
Anyhow, opinions?
Ha, well, he does do some street racing here and there (not that I encourage this), but for the most part he's just driving his car to work o_O
...no mods that I know of...
Judgeing from what you've said, it sounds like he has a lot of performance items on his car, sounds like he races. If he has a lot of performance goodies on it, then chances are he has the timing bumped up and he might have a higher than stock compression ratio which would need a higher octane fuel.
Gas today (with all the ethenol) really sucks. I'm not meaning to give him props or anything, it may just be his preference to run high grade, but with that engine, probably would be ok with regular grade gas. If he uses regular gas and the valves rattle, then yes, he needs high grade gas.
I have to use high grade in my Trans Ams, they are racing motors and just will not run on low grade gas.
