I HATE strangers touching my pregnant belly. How should I handle these people, or am I just over-reacting???
Hopefully I'm not over-reacting.
I'm 4 months pregnant, with my first child, and I already have a very noticeable belly. (I was very thin and petite before I got pregnant) And for some reason, people think a pregnant womens belly is community property, free for anyone to come up to touch and rub. I cringe everytime it happens, and it takes everything I have to not snap on someone. I don't mind my family or close friends doing it, but when a complete stranger does it, I want to SCREAM! Not only is it rude, but I also catch colds and illnesses very easily. And just the thought of some stranger touching me grosses me out. Some don't even ask, they just walk up and touch my belly!! I usually fake a smile through gritted teeth. But I have almost 5 months left of this. Aside from wearing sweats and huge t-shirts to hide my tummy (I do enjoy wearing cute maternity clothes), how can I handle this? I hate going out now because I know someone will touch my tummy! Do other women hate it too?
Im currently almost 6mths pregnant with my second and I know exactly how u feel! through my first pregnancy I grinned and bared it...as much as I hated it...I was kinda too excited about the pregnancy to say much...but this time, I dunno if its hormones or what but I really really cannot stand it - even close family n friends annoy me with their contant need to touch my tummy!
The only thing I have been able to do is be upfront - when one particular friend did it ( I was only 6 weeks so no belly to even touch!) I pulled back, pushed her hand out of the way but kept a hold of it as I calmly told her not to touch my stomach. I didnt yell, as much as I wanted to, and I tried to say it as nicely as possible - even pointed out that I never touched her stomach when she was expecting...and she seemed to get the picture.
With strangers u can still do the same thing - pull away and just try to stay calm - tell them u dont like it, even ask them if ppl did it to them when they were expecting....or....what I do now if im having a really bad day and cannot be bothered telling strangers to leave me the hell alone - as they would any other time anyways! - I have a nice big handbag I move in front of my stomach when I see strangers approach LoL
