Which wedges should i use?
I have a 2 year old titliest vokey which is really worn out and a new taylormade rac nickel wedge.
I know the vokeys are a much better club then the racs but since it is 2 years old and the grooves are really worn out, should i start using the new racs?
Alright dude, those two wedges are really nice. Telling from experience and talking with my coach, how fresh your wedges are isn't going to make a big difference, unless the club is like 15 years old.
Now your 2 year old wedge shouldn't be much different from your rac unless you banged it on a car. A two year old wedge is considered groove wise to be very very usable. If you know how to chip and pitch then your score is going to be the same. I'll tell you, scientifically yes the rac will give you marginally more spin, but that stuff is like ants to a giant when you consider how much your wedge game will vary. The reason there is so much hype is that pga tour pros have their wedges dialed. Dialed as in from 120 yards in they control their distances literally by the yard. So that spin will affect them.
So the important thing, to choose a good wedge from those two, pick the one you think looks the best and gives you the most confidence. Don't listen to what people say about oh this wedge is better or dude the vokeys are awesome. Heck my first set was from Costco and I beat all the guys with their newest scotty putters and wedges and 400 buck drivers.
