Stronger Grip helped?!
I have a neutral overlapping grip. I’ve been having problems hitting my hybrids and woods with consistently – slicing them mostly and actually popping up the ball with the driver every once in a while.
But the other day I decided to change my grip with these clubs and have hit them straighter and more consistently – just like that!
I took a stronger grip with 3 knuckles showing on my left hand and the right slightly more under – not too much just a little bit more than my normal grip.
I still use a neutral grip with clubs 7i to the wedges but with the 6i to the driver I changed the grip and found more confidence with those clubs more than I ever had before!
So why does the grip change facilitate this more consistent ball flight in my swing?
When you have a stronger grip and is able to see your knuckles facing up, you are actually closing the club face during the down swing.
Woods are longer and when your hip roll is faster than your hands, you get slice shots.
unless you are comfortable switch between woods stronger grip and iron natural grip else I recommend you stick with the natural grip and practice a more natural swing, look up "The Natural Swing' pioneered by Moe Norman and reframe from shifting your hip too fast and let the arms and club do its work on the down swing to launch straighter shots.
Once you have master the natural swing, add in your hip roll and right arm roll and you will be able to add distance to the natural swing.
