What types of bowls cant cats drink from?
*I've heard that either metal or iron can make a cat sick if they eat from it on a daily basis.
*Ive heard that plastic can hold a scent (even after washing) that would make a cat not like to eat from it.
*I've heard that glass is always best for various reasons
Someone PLEASE help me out. I want to get this custom engraved metal dish for my cat but not if he's going to get sick after eating from it.
Thanks in advance ~
The most informative gets 5 shiny stars (*****)
I've checked a couple of books from my 'cat library'. All say stainless steel -- which is probably the metal you will be getting -- is the overall best choice. The stainless steel is sturdy, unbreakable and lasts forever. An added plus is that you could put it in the dishwasher to wash and sterilize it.
Glass would be the next best choice. Glass is easy to wash or can be put in the dishwasher. The downside with glass is chips and cracks which can injury their tongue. My cats have glass dishes and bowls and we haven't had any problems.
Plastic is the least best choice. Plastic seems to hold the smell of the food, regardless of how thoroughly it's washed. Plastic can scratch and that creates two problems: bacteria can hide in thoses scratches and the chemicals in the plastic can leach through the food. Also, many cats are allergic to plastic.
So, I say get the engraved bowl!
