Which Cheap Beginner Set?
I'm a complete beginner, I already have a decent driver, putter, bag, and lob...so I basically just need some irons.
I'm eyeing the:
1) Nicklaus SSX 460 (refurbished) - $99.00 (@ Dicks Sporting)
Steel, Regular Flex, Includes 3H, 4H and 5iron thru PW&SW
People say the refurbished clubs actually look brand new.
2) TopFlite Hybrid Iron Set (located at Academy) - $149.99
Steel, (?? Flex), 3H, 4H and 5iron through PW
I was told Callaway bought out TopFlite, so they may be somewhat decent
3) Nike Ignite Hybrid (@ Dicks Sporting) - $299.99
Steel, (R Flex), 3H, 4H and 5iron through PW
Because I'm a beginner, I'm tempted to take the Nicklaus set because of the price, but I'm also looking for a set to keep for years and years.
How much worse will the Nicklaus set be than the other two. Is the TopFlite any good?
Also, the Nicklaus is an ONLINE SPECIAL only so I can't actually swing the club to see how it feels...but $99??! geesh.
They are all about the same class, the Nike set might be a little better. Since you are a beginner, I suggest you get the cheaper set and use the money you save for some lessons. No need to worry about keeping your set for years. As your swing improves, you will want to upgrade. Just about every golfer does this. Good Luck.
