How do I keep my kids in golf without going broke?
I have two children, 7 and 12, and they are eager to go learn golf! I bought them both a set of clubs for Christmas...they were really excited. So far we've only been out to the driving range...still testing the waters of interest. So far so good. I recently checked prices for golf shoes and couldn't believe my eyes at the prices. Obviously it's been a long time since I bought my pair of shoes. I cannot imagine spending $80-$100 per year per child for new shoes because they've outgrown their old ones! Any ideas on obtaining perhaps used golf shoes or are there clip on cleats that can be used...kinda like the old strap on roller skates!!!! LOL!
My 8 yr old nephew plays in sneakers. I do too when I'm with him so he doesn't feel like he's ill equiped. He wants a new pair of golf shoes so I told him if he places 1, 2 or 3 in three of his 6 tourneys this year I would go half in on them. If he truely wants them he'll practice more which is what I want , and he'll have to be diligent on saving money , something we all could get better at. As far as not going broke look into your local youth golf programs , they can lead to valuable discounts. Ours have a master list of all participating juniors and gives a copy to the driving range . If you are on that list you can get 1/2 price buckets thru the end of summer. In two weeks once a few more sessions are under way the course next door allows 1/2 green fees to the juniors. So where I'm at 10 bucks would split a small bucket for the kiddos and they'd each get 9 holes<1$ more to make "the turn" and play it again>. Call all your local courses and see if they offer junior rates . The one I joined offers under 18 rates of 6 bucks for 18 holes ! So there are deals for the kids if you seek them out (they are not always posted out in the open).
