How much money should I spend on a new set of golf clubs?
My old set is becoming too short for me and I need a new one. How much should I spend on one. Here is some info on me.
I am 14 years old (I have money)
I have a 28 handicap
I have a lot of good shots and bad shots (inconsistant)
I hit fat, slice, hook, push, pull, duff, and pure as well. I'm all over the place
I play neerly every day (in the summer). I also play a lot in the fall in spring.
I want to improve my game to a 15 handicap or lower by becoming more consistant
Irons are my strength (most of the time)
I do not need a new putter
Hey, you are young, you want to improve, and you have money. There are a few different ways to go about this. As far as money goes, dont worry about how much you spend get what you need.
IRONS
1) Irons that give the most feedback are forged blade irons. They are not forgiving at all, but offer the most feedback(you can tell how well you hit it) and these will make you hit the ball properly. A good set would be Hogan Apex (not expensive) or Titleist Mussle Back's (MB) (lil more exp).
2)Moderate feedback, forgiving but still gives some back. Good
examples, Callaway X-20 Tour, Ping I3's, Titleist AP1's.
(Titleist AP2's are between AP1 and the MB... This is what I have bought but not hit yet). All of these clubs have been or are being used on tour.
3)Forgiving! Callaway X-20, Ping G10, Ping G5, newer King Cobra's. These will help you score, but offer no feedback to make you a lot better.
AP1's are probably the way for you to go, they are between #2 instead of in the #2 category.
WOODS
I would go with a forgiving driver and probably do the set. Ping G10 is only $300, G5 is almost the same club and almost sure you can get it cheap. Callaway, Nike, and King Cobra are all forgiving and pretty good. The Cobra is probably the least exp around $200 depending on model. I think the Titleist drivers are the most workable, and that is what I have hit for years (JVS, LFE, E, K, now the 905R).
