could a joint supplement help?
i have a 19yr old trotter x who has been on riding schools his whole ridden life, i bought him last year as a happy hacker who has turned out to be worth his wait in gold! im currently compete him at local level sj up to 1m and have just started doing so be90 with him.
he has arthritis in his hocks and stifle but is sound and happy! i have found that sometimes he is quite stiff when i first ride him and it takes a good 20Min's before he supple up! he is fed codlivine and has 1 bute per day but i am feeling this maybe isn't enough for when he is competing!
what joint supplement shave you used and had results off?
he is very fit and has been brought up to fitness slowly i just feel he has lost some of his suppleness.

I had a similar situation with my old TB gelding - the secret is to keep them going in my opinion! I think your doing a great job taking the old boy out and about doing fun stuff - it has probably given him a new lease of life after the riding school. Always good to hear golden oldies going strong!
My boy was the same, always took a bit of warming up to get him completely supple. I did have him on a really great supplement - Cortaflex - and although its a little pricey its definately worth it - after about 3 weeks of being on it there was a great improvement in his stiffness and also recovered quickly after doing competitions. I would really recommend it and think that is what gave him his extra years competing - he even won a puissance aged 22 jumping 1m80!
Another thing I could recommed are joint injections (cortizone) from the vet (the first time they can last 12/ 18months) - these are quite expensive (a few hundred pounds) but are incredibly effective and you will probably not even notice ANY stiffness
