Should I join the FBLA club in my high school?
At my high school we are required to take a Business Tech class (Typing, career choice, etc) in our freshman year. My teacher mentioned the Future Business Leaders of America club as a good club to join. I live in Alabama and I'm required to have 24 credits before I can graduate. I know the club won't give me credits, but surely that would be a good thing to have? What are the benefits of the FBLA? I know it won't count much unless I become an officer...and idea on how to do that?
FBLA is a great club! Since it's a business club it looks good to colleges because it's basically a club that helps prepare you for the working world. It's also a big organization that many colleges recognize. Also, FBLA holds competitions on the section (kind of like regional), state, and national level and if you happen to win at any of them, it looks good (especially if you win at state and go onto nationals).
You also have many opportunities to become an officer in FBLA. If you join your freshman year, you can apply to be an officer your sophomore year for your chapter (school) club. You can then become a section officer your junior year and your senior year you can become a state officer. I even know a freshman in FBLA who became president of a chapter his freshman year, is working to be president of section his sophomore, and then plans to be president of state his junior then president of nationals his senior.
It's also a good club to join because there's a collegiate level of FBLA that you can join if your college offers the club (You can even start the club at your college if you want to). This is why many colleges recognize it.
I'll even tell you this to convince you more, I knew the state president of my state's FBLA and she ended up going to Harvard. A section officer I knew went to Penn while another went to Georgetown. These are all prestigious colleges and they all got accepted and they were all in FBLA. 
It's a great club to join, you should join it because it will do a lot for your future.
