How can you gain a faster club head swing for golf?
I am a petite girl and i need to get more distance out of my drives to be more competitve. any suggestions?
Start with the appropriate Driver w/ proper flex, torque, kick point, add the appropriate lofted club head.
There are LPGA players 5'2"-5'4" driving the ball 250-275yds. I as well am petite (Pixie) 4'11"/100lbs
I get the most using a longer shaft, standing a bit further away, slightly wider stance and flatter swing. I use the Ab-Circle Pro for core training, resistance bands for upper body. I use the Taylormade Speed Sleeve for warming up with a weighted driver. I have found that cutting down your driver (which may be a tendency for shorter people) is the biggest robbery of yardage. Learning to make cleaner contact will take a bit longer, but the flatter angle of approach and longer length of the club will in itself create yardage.
A basic fact is the longer the backswing a golfer has, the more time there is to generate faster club head speeds. When lengthening the backswing, remember to keep it controlled. It doesn't matter how fast the club head is going when it hits the ball if the golfer has no control over it. A controlled, long backswing will allow for increased club head speed.
Try to slow the hands when coming through the ball. This will seem unnatural, but it will create lag from the shaft to the club head, allowing for increased club head speeds. At first, this will feel unorthodox, but after a while, it will help with control over the club head and increased speed.
Another way to help with club head speed is to turn the hips into the ball. Turning the hips propels the shoulders forward and through the ball. Work on the hip twist into and through the ball, and this will lead to increased club head speed right away.
Increasing physical strength by doing proper strength training will help to increase club head speed. Areas to focus on would be the core muscles, legs, shoulders and arms. Working on these areas three times a week will help to increase club head speed. Flexibility exercises are equally important; Yoga can help with flexibility and keeping the mind focused and relaxed.
If you're not a gym or exercise person, you can participate in activities that promote physical strength as well, water-sking, motorcycle/dirt bike riding, bicycling, surfing, swimming, kick boxing, tennis, cheerleading, ice skating, dancing....you get the picture, lots of fun things are great body builders.
