What golf iron set should i get?
The maximum I want to pay for a set is 400$ so i found 3 sets that i really like but am undecided between them. The first one is the Callaway X-20 steel irons, next is the Taylor Made Burner Plus steel irons, and the last is the Cleveland Launcher Steel. All three sets are 399.99, so any advice would help!
Well I've owned both the X-20's and the Burner Pluses. I've hit the Cleveland Launcher. It's ok not great, the CG's are better. CG gold in steel is $399.95 from TGW. It's a decent alternative to the X-20's. You may want to give them a try. As for the X-20's and Burner Pluses it's kinda up to you to decide what you need. If you're a high handicap golfer looking for a max game improvement then the Burner pluses fit that category if you're a mid to high handicapper who is looking for a little more workability then the X-20's will fit you better. There difference is that the Burner Pluses are designed to get the ball up in the air and carry it straight. It does a pretty good job of it but when I got to a level where I wanted to work the ball more those clubs were useless. The X-20's were much batter at that. You'll need a better swing because it doesn't help you as much to get the ball in the air and if you slice, it'll slice more than the Burners. But the X-20's are my personal favorite of the two. It offers much more precision and accuracy than the Burners, but the burners offer more distance and straightness. So it's up to you what you think you need. I would suggest the X-20's even though you may struggle a little in the beginning you'll be able to use them much longer as your game improves. I think the burners are actually too forgiving. If you strike the ball on the toe for example, it feels the same as the sweet spot. It goes almost as far. The X-20's sting you a bit letting you know you missed and the ball doesn't travel nearly as far. It's a good feedback to have to improve you're ball striking. With the Burners, you might groove your swing where you think you're hitting them great, then find out you've grooved your swing all wrong when you step up to your next set. Fixing that will be much harder in the long run. Plus, I love the way the X-20's look and feel at address. The Burners top line is bulky, actually the entire club is bulky. The Callaways are much more sleek. But regardless, you should hit them all if you have a chance. That will really be the best way to know for sure which is best for you. Good luck.
