Hi building computer and need help with choosing a PSU thanks?
Hey I'm building a new computer and I'm just wondering what PSU to get either a corsair 1000HX or a thermaltake toughpower 1200w or any other psu. Here are my specs:
4 SATA HDD's running in RAID 5
12gb of ddr3 ram
Gigabyte x58-extreme
i7-950
Thermaltake Armour+ LCS (ps hooking up all fans and the LCS)
dvd/cd rw drive
ATI 5850
Thanks alot
Both power supplies are good but really too much even for a Crossfire setup. The HD 5850 only draws up to 151watts max. http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5850-review-crossfire/9
A single HD 5850 set up does not even hit 400W on wall socket.
And here are some more total system power consumption:

Even a 750W power supply should be able to handle most dual card set ups with ease. Personally, I would settle for a smaller power supply, just 6GB RAM then put my money on the ATI HD 5870. That should be more fun on a multi-display set up. So far, I have not yet seen a game that uses more than 2GB RAM for its application file. Thus, I have not yet felt any need to upgrade my ageing 6GB rig.
