Can an island in the Caribbean sink, if an earthquake occurs?
Due to all that is happening in the world, i am just concerned about the small islands in the Caribbean, especially Barbados, Antigua, St. Lucia, Trinidad and so on.
No. The only islands that can sink are those built on sand. Many people don't seem to realize that the ocean floor is composed of tectonic plates, just as the land is. The plates move against each other at plate boundaries, causing earthquakes, but there is no place for them to sink to. Some islands that were giant volcanoes were destroyed by massive eruptions, such as Krakatoa in 1883, but otherwise, no, they don't just sink.
