Need to Swap Your Wiper Motor?
Turn the ignition key to "On" and switch on the wipers, then turn the key off. This stops the wiper linkage. Consult your owner's handbook for the site of the wiper motor. A few bolt directly to the outside of the firewall inside the engine compartment. Many need to be accessed through the glove compartment. or front trunk, in rear motor models. Some others sit under the hood cowl in front of the windshield. Make use of a screwdriver to remove the cowl screws about the hood, or the wiper motor entry plate within the firewall, if so equipped.

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Dependant on the positioning of the wiper, whether within the cowl region or maybe on the outside of the firewall, detach the main line jack that provides power to it by unsnapping the plastic-type clip to the connector and tugging it free. If specific wire connections have been attached, make note of their exact location. Disconnect the power cable from the pump, if the pump attaches to the wiper motor. Remove every vacuum line or washer tube around the wiper motor.

Look for the chief linkage arm that links the wiper motor shaft into the rod assembly. It can either be connected with a nut and spacer or linked using a cotter pin. Utilize an end wrench to take out the nut and spacer. Use pliers to pull the cotter pin away from its connecting hole. Push the linkage arm away. Locate the the 3 or 4 bolts which hold the wiper to its bracket. Utilize an end wrench or perhaps socket, based upon clearance, to remove the bracket bolts.

Pull the wiper motor out. For your cowl-mounted wiper motor, clean the inside of the vented cowl region, extracting leaves, twigs and various debris. Place the new wiper motor into its bracket and secure the mounting bolts manually. Tighten up the mounting bolts with an end wrench or maybe socket. Reconnect the linkage arm, with the spacer and nut, and tighten it with an end wrench. For a cotter pin attachment, connect the linkage arm to the wiper motor shaft and place a new cotter pin in the fastener position.

Put back all you pulled apart, ensure that all attachments are firm, reconnect the battery and turn the key to the "On" position and activate the wiper motor. Look for clean and even functioning.
