Attic insulation - reduce your carbon footprint by installing loft insulation blanket

Over the last 50 year, the weather has become more and more unpredictable, with a definite pattern of warming. The winters have grown warmer and wetter whilst our summers become hotter and drier. It's clear that this is because of long term global warming.

Because of this, most people now understand that we all need to do our own bit to reduce our carbon emissions and the first place to start is at home. The energy we use in our homes is directly responsible for over a quarter of our carbon emissions and of that, 80 % is used just through heating. By installing a more efficient boiler, or simply turning down the thermostat, you can reduce your fuel bills and consequently your carbon emissions, but one of the easiest and most effective ways to do this is to insulate your home. And the best place to start is where most of the heat is lost i.e. in the attic.

Many people think attic insulation is a difficult and dirty job, best left to the professionals but with the advent of encapsulated insulation, you can install it simply and easily using attic insulation blanket.

The main advantage of attic or loft blanket is that it's encapsulated and this means all the insulation material remains inside the blanket and off you and your clothing. This ensures it is a virtually itch-free product. Installing it is therefore totally safe and there's no need for any protective clothing or goggles.

You will however need a tape measure for measuring the installation area and a craft knife to cut the blanket to size prior to installation. You will also need the tape measure to check the blanket is laid to a depth of at least 270mm, to gain maximum insulation effect.

Another advantage of insulation blanket is that it's very light and compression-packed, making it easy to handle and carry it up and down a loft ladder. Do please bear in mind however, that an average attic will need several rolls to cover it effectively and, unless you have a huge car or van, it will require several trips to the DIY store.  Fortunately you can now purchase loft insulation blanket online and some companies even offer free delivery.
