The most forgiving Titleist 907 D1 Driver
The Titleist 907D1 Driver is a high moment-of-inertia driver designed to provide long distance with outstanding forgiveness. The triangle shape achieves the maximum geometry limits allowed by the USGA which in turn increases the moment-of-inertia. The multi-material design of the 907 D1 driver in combination with the triangular-shaped geometry and high MOI deliver maximum ball speed over a very large area of the face. The 907 D1 driver is designed for the player that is seeking distance and forgiveness, allowing them to hit longer straighter drives without hitting the sweet spot every time. The 907 D1, high MOI for distance with forgiveness.
Features and Benefits: 1. Maximum triangular geometry driver with increased moment-of-inertia for stability heel-toe and high-low for increased distance on off-center impacts and exceptional forgiveness. 2. Large maximum ball speed area for increased ball speed across the face. 3. Multi-material design with a lightweight 6061 T6 hosel, high speed titanium alloy face insert and precision cast body. 4. Tapered thickness face insert is thinner at the top to promote high launch and lower spin for optimum launch conditions and maximum ball speed. 5. Low mass crown and hosel optimize the weight distribution and lower the CG for solid feel and better energy transfer. 6. Symmetric face design increases the face area in combination with improved scorelines and the square face angle provides confidence at address. 7. Gloss black paint finish with textured side skirt and "foggy mirror" polished sole provide outstanding cosmetics. 8. Red zippered thin profile headcover with black and white highlights.
The symmetrical face helps usher in another change: the "pear" shape for which Titleist is known is gone. Even the 905R was described as a "pear-shaped" driver, but the 907D2 is described by Titleist as having a "traditional geometry circle" design. Most drivers these days are more circular than pear, so the moment of silence I took to observe the death of the pear lasted longer than my adjustment period to the more circular clubhead.
All told, these drivers really impressed me. Though I'd strayed to the FT-3 Tour and the r7 425 TP in recent years, what with the 905S being "only" 395cc or so, I'm now happy to be back and driving with a Titleist 907D2. The symmetrical face, the Titleist sound, and the incredible distance, workability, and forgiveness afforded to me by this driver astounds me every time I pull it from the bag.
Overall I would say that Titleist has lived up to its reputation, but also gone away from it in a fairly successful way. By avoiding tradition and seeking innovation they have proven themselves as industry elite, and the Titleist 907D1 driver might carry them into the future.
Players' review:
"Looked weird when it was first introduced, but now the 907D1's shape is considered normal. Forgiving yet different abilities can play this club. At impact it feels like a hammer going down on a nail. Solid and the sound will keep reminding you. Keep in mind the bore thru design requires a slight adjustment to your swing. The stock Aldila shaft is not bad. The entire club has a good weight to it. Cool zipper headcover."
"This is without a doubt the most forgiving driver I have ever hit. I have a tendency to be a bit inconstant off the tee; but this club really has solved that issue. I know a lot of people who bought the D2 because it's more "Workable" but I am a 4 handicapper and working the ball off the tee just leads to missed shots for most of us. The only drawback to this club is that it really is not workable, but as I already inferred most of us have no need to work the ball off the tee."
"I just played with my first round with mine. I have played several drivers this summer trying to find one I like the best. The 907 D1 is it. I like the easy setup,it seems easy to get a nice square hit (much like the TM Burner) however the ball seems to just jump off the club face the best for me with the D1. It has a nice solid heft to the head and makes a nice sound at impact. I found it easy to control, and a couple of bad shots turned out more then ok in the end. I recommend anyone who is looking for a driver to at least give it a try."
"The flight and distance was consistent, no matter how the swing. I am so much more confident with this driver than i was previously. I have tried a number of Titleist drivers and fairway woods and i do think that consistently these are some of the best clubs around. The Titleist 907 D1 is a great club and if the price doesn't bother you then go for it, give it a try."
